So, I guess it is about time I started showing more of the mint Canadian collection
In this thread are the years from the ascension of HM Queen Elizabeth II till her Silver Jubilee in 1977. Notable events in this period of Canadian history and thus philately were the adoption of the Canadian Flag in 1965, the Centennial of Canada as a nation in 1967, the first Olympic games to be hosted in Canada in 1976, and as mentioned, HM's Silver Jubilee in 1977.
During that period the Queen returned to Canada 10 times as monarch, for which a number of stamps were issued to commemorate. She tours Canada rather than visits, in her role as Queen & Head of State of Canada, and has even gone so far as to visit the United States in that role rather than as the Queen of the United Kingdom.
In 1965 Canada began issuing annual Christmas stamps and instituted tagging of postage stamps in 1962 on sporadic issues as a test with what is referred to here in Canada as Winnipeg Tagging and was discontinued in 1970. In 1967 the process of phosphor tagging was stared with the Centennial series of stamps, but didn't really come into full use as a process until 1971.
This 25 year period also invigorated the process of honouring Canadian Artists on stamps by showcasing their works and began the process of hounouring the indigenous peoples of Canada by showing some of their traditions and artists on stamps. For some Canadians this would be the only vehicle to view some of these works of art.
Canada as a nation has showcased our flora, fauna, Head of State and even her representative while not here, territories, authors, artists, battles we have fought as a nation and to establish our nation, and even our children, and now I get to showcase more of my collection to you.
