I've no idea why, but his thread came up as the top entry when clicking on Recent Threads. Haven't seen it before, though, and I found it quite entertaining. I will have to dredge up some of my "Ugly" candidates.

youpiao , this is one of the older threads that has been consecrated "Thread of the Week" (in the right panel), and part of the power of threads of the week is that they magically rise from dormancy back into the Top 10. I just thought I'd show off my knowledge, because it took me about a year to figure it out.
I'm an admirer of Austrian stamps, but I saw this one and said "OMG!", which is something that the young people say and I should keep away from it, but I couldn't help myself. Was this poor guy eating a squid but forgot to cook it? Was the squid eating him? Did he have a tumor that will be written about in medical journals for all of infinity? Did the bubbles mean that he was drowning in a vat of champagne and was lost in the throes of hallucination? Did he really think that green and orange go well together? The answer is much worse....
He's playing bagpipes. Bagpipes! The horror... the horror...
It's not really fair to pick out a work of art - in this case Augustin, the Piper, by an unknown (to the Scott Catalog, DuckDuckGo, Google, and me) 20th-century artist - but I couldn't really make out what was happening on this midsized stamp, and I admit it gave me a serious case of the creeps.
Since I started writing this, I have learned it's not magic; it's kacyds in administrator mode - which is almost the same thing, if you think about it.

Here, for your...uh, edification is a Greek stamp celebrating International Education Year. Prepare to have termite cyborgs drill into your cerebellum....
It is only just to point out that you can't totally blame the Greeks; it was an omnibus issue and I have several types of this same design. The good news is that I can't find them. The true news is that I think I know where a couple of them are, but I refuse to get up and try to find them. The bad news is that this design apparently got through an international commission of graphic artists.

Winston Churchill (more or less) on a stamp from Yemen. Maybe they grabbed the wrong stock photo and got somebody else; I've never seen a photograph of Sir Winston that looked anything like this. But whoever it is, he has the....

If you were to look for ugly stamps, you probably wouldn't look to Italy. But I found a couple....
This pair is supposed to make you enthusiastic about starting a Postal Savings account. I don't know. It makes me want to stuff my worldly belongings in the mattress, go off the grid, and never, ever drink apple cider that somebody poured out out of a barrel. (Maybe you've never been tempted to drink apple cider out of the barrel, but it's a big thing around here.)
Moving back a few years... in 1933, Torino hosted the International University Games and made the mistake of telling the world.
Since the moment I saw that stamp, I can't get "Baba O'Riley" or the Who's Next album cover out of my head.
Here is the artist for that Austrian stamp(Augustin, the piper), Arik Brauer, apparently living up to his reputation(Vienna school of fantastical realism). The stamp also relates to a Viennese children's song "Ach, du lieber Augustin".
