Guernsey German Occupation Stamps

I have a couple of copies of Guernsey N1 and N2 however when I check the Scott catalogue, it indicates that these stamps are rouletted 14 x 7. When I check my stamps, they appear to be 7 x 7. I am hoping there are some members who can let me know if there are forgeries of these stamps.

Here is the first set of stamps and the rouletting is quite obvious. I will post the second set immediately after this one.

This is my second set of N1 and N2. The rouletting on the side of the stamp is obviously 7 but on the top and bottom the rouletting is hard to detect and I don't think it is 14.

Stanley Gibbons do not distinguish between different roulettings in their Channel Islands catalogue. Nor do they give any warnings about forgeries. I would expect there to be warnings if forgeries were a real problem.

If I were you, I wouldn't put too much stock in the roulette sizing. The rouletting tends to be very rough, and some sheets received clean cuts, while others didn't.  Those that didn't, the perfs didn't tear cleanly, and it can lead to wild variations.

For example, both of these are genuine, certified copies.



The one at left (MiNr 1 d) has nice, clean perf separation, but the one on the right (MiNr 1 e) didn't separate as well, and it gives the appearance of a different perf size, especially along the bottom.  If you count them, though, there are exactly twice as many on the bottom of the MiNr 1 e, which is a good sign, as it means the rouletting is the same, they just tore all from the neighboring stamp instead of odd/even.

There are known forgeries of these issues, but yours appear to be genuine.

PostmasterGS , thanks for the info on these stamps and the link to your great website that I have bookmarked. I was seeing such a variation in N1 and N2 that I was assuming that one or more might be forged. I have N3 which is also supposed to be rouletted 14 x7 and it doesn't appear to be as specified in Scott(see below).
