Have there been any know service issues in the past week? I am just curious as I have been having issues on the site for a few days. It has taken an incredibly long time to get logged in, or navigate, or post on the site. This morning, never got logged in so I gave up. Just now, when I came back, i was all ready logged in. This has happened, though less frequently with another stamp forum I belong to but hosted by same company.
I have been using IPad in all cases and have not had any connectivity issues with any other sites.
I had problems, but it turned out it was a problem with my ISP. I thought it was a problem with ProBoards, but I noticed I was having problems with Google accesses as well. I eventually had to do a hard reset -- turned off, unplugged everything (including my internet access line), and then all was well.
Most of the time, it is a temporary ProBoards problem. But even if ProBoards solves the problem, you might still have some cache problems. If you are only having problem with Stamp Bears Forum and they persist for more than 1-2 days, sometimes you have to clear your browser cache/cookies to get rid of those problem webloads/scripts. I would try that first.
Thanks for the info. I had done most of what you suggested. I had a bit of inclination that part of the issues was this temperamental iPad. It has its own mind I think sometimes. I get easily frustrated when technology does not work as well as it should.
If you are only having problems with Stamp Bears Forum, then it's not a hardware problem.
However, it may still be a software problem. If you are running any adblocker software, temporarily disable that and see. If that still doesn't solve the problem, try starting your browser in "safe" mode (i.e., no plug-ins enabled). I had one case where one of the plug-ins was acting up for some reason and reinstalling the plug-in solved the problem.
Anyway, hope you get the problem solved soon so that you'll have a trouble-free experience on Stamp Bears and post even more!
I think ProBoards might have been doing some tweaking over the past couple of days. Today, I suddenly got an email notifying me of all the new threads. Never got this before, and it turns out there is a setting to receive a weekly email notification of new threads. I never noticed this specific notification option before (I had turned most of the notifications off), so either it is new option or somehow it got changed from "never" to "weekly".
Here is my problem. No problem getting to stampbears home page. I have a problem getting to any other page. (eg. new post page or any other page.) This happens some days 8 out of 10 tries until I quit and move on. When I try to go to any page I get this:
"Your connection is not secure
The owner of stampbears.net has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.
Report errors like this to help Mozilla identify and block malicious sites"
Since the proboards site is a secure site apparently stampbears is not.
Does anyone else see this problem? Any suggestions?
Bookmark or access as simple stampbears.net (i.e., and not stampbears.net. You are getting the message because you are asking for a secure connection when you use https. At the risk of starting a debate, it is my opinion that there is very little to benefit (at both ends) to use https at a public forum. This has been debated/experimented at other stamp forums, and you'll find many (dare I say most) of them don't bother with the https.
That being said, don't use a password on public forums that you would be concerned about getting compromised.
khj, My sentiments exactly. I don't mind the "non secure site" part of it. I just find the notice a bit of a pain. Nothing I put up is worth much to anyone. (a bunch of babble and a few pictures) I just thought of something. I will try Microsoft Edge browser and see if I get the same problem. As I said no problem getting to Stampbears home page but the problem arises from there to any other page. Some days there is no problem at all and others it takes a long time getting anything done. Will update you on the Edge browser. They brag about being better that Firefox so we will have to see what they do.
Edge does way too much info harvesting for my comfort (and bandwidth). So I removed it from my laptop!
If you want to continue to use FF (as I do), then bookmarking as http will keep you from getting that annoying Mozilla (I'm-starting-to-become-Microsoft) message. If I go back and use https for stampbears, then yes, I will get that annoying screen.
Chrome is my back-up if FF has problems at a site, and then the old Internet Explorer when even Chrome doesn't work. I don't even attempt to use Edge (of course, can't now since I removed it!).
As I said no problem getting to Stampbears home page but the problem arises from there to any other page.
Ah, sorry, I missed that. That is strange. It almost sounds like some "https" somehow got into your history, or an errant cookie, or your "secure" zones setting got changed. I hate to say this, but if you still run into that problem using Edge/Chrome/IE, then clear out your history/cookies and check your secure zone setting.
Anyway, please keep us updated and hope you get it solved. Thanks.
Cloudflare is a company that provides DNS & DDoS mitigation. They do a lot of b2b with other internet hosting companies. So when Cloudflare has a problem, it affects a good chunk of their clients. That's what happened this morning.
I was running into problems about an hour ago, but all seems to be well now.
