1942 5½d Emu block of 10 with ink stripping on 6 stamps on the left.

Ink stripping is normally caused by residual cleaning fluid being left on the plate which prevented the proper adhesion of the ink and was lifted when the doctor blade passed over the plates. With the exception of the "white wattles", this particular ink stripping was caused by weak plates and the wrong ink solution in 1937.

I was told by the specialist I bought this block of 6 from that not many escaped detection, and that the 1942 ink stripped emus like this have been seldom seen on the market.
