Japanese Occupation of India Stamps and other Unused Stamps

I am not sure where to place these... I do not know if they are to be considered Cinderellas or something else. There has to be other stamps that have been produced as revenue stamps that were never used.

Just google Azad Hind and read the wikipedia speal on Azad Hind. They also mention the "unissued stamps".

Scott considers them cinderellas, as they were printed by the German government printing office in Berlin for the Azad Hind (free India) national government based in Singapore (occupied by Japan at the time).

Michel does list them, and I believe they are also listed in one of the Japanese specialized catalogs.

They were printed in 1943. A total of 18 stamps in 4 subsets. You have the primary subset of 6, which also comes as an imperforate subset. There is an additional subset of 3 stamps for Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as well as the same as imperforate subset.

I'll see if I can find the Michel catalog numbers for you.

In Michel, your stamps are in the German Specialized Part I, Private Ausgaben section, under Nationales Indien #I-VI.

I never noticed until now, but Michel actually has 7 stamps listed for this subset (including imperforate). The 7th stamp is a 1 rupee + 2 rupees stamp, and has pretty hefty premium (on the order of magnitude of US$100). I've never seen this 7th stamp.

In the Japanese catalog, your stamps are India National Army #4-9. Due to my sloppy note-taking, I don't remember which Japanese specialized catalog -- maybe JSDA? I originally got the info from Philatarium many years ago, so hopefully he can chime in with the catalog name.

Here in the UK I have always found any articles/literature, etc, that mentions these stamps considers them to be propaganda "stamps" only, therefore I would consider them to be cinerella's.

Cheers lads. I am continuing my research on them. My mum picked these up in England back in the 60s. Not sure when or from where, it was just a simple footnote "From Roger." Roger is my uncle and in the early 60s was playing football for Bristol City and England and I know he travelled a lot back then. Thanks for all of the info on them. They have just been placed in the back of the book after Zanzibar... I'm going to put them at the back end of India and be done with that aspect of it.   I do however think it best that I create a nicer printed sheet for it though with the info herein printed on it directly. That would definitely clean it up. Thanks again khj , guyana1230 ,
