Korean Traditional Culture Series - 2003 and 2004

In 2003 and 2004, South Korea issued a series of beautifully engraved stamps depicting objects of historic cultural significance.  I currently don't have the Scott Catalog for these years and will update when I get to the library the next time.

Regardless, I present these for all those members who appreciate engraved stamps.  The art is not lost...

The first issue depicts Korean traditional footwear.

The second group depicts traditional modes of transportation.

I am not sure if this is the 3rd of 4th series as there was no additional selvage included but this set depicts traditional lamps and lanterns.

Traditional tables. One sits on the floor at a table like this. My sister-in-law has a table similar to the 2nd stamp from the left.

This is one of my favorites..traditional hats. If you have ever watched a Korean historical drama (there are many available on Netflix and subtitles in English) you see a large variety of hats similar to these.

Decorative boxes and containers. I lived in Korea for 8 years and have brought home many of these as gifts for friends and family. Many of them are very beautifully made...I have a bit of an obsession with small boxes...

These are beautiful, I've never known about this series.

Craig, I am not sure if more were issued or not but the engraving, like many recent issues from Korea, is pretty stunning.

Excellent set! Those are the only 6 strips of the Traditional Culture series that I am aware of. The Scott catalog numbers, in order of your posts:

For some reason, my Scott does not give the exact issue dates for the 2004 strips. I got them from Michel.

This is why they had hat boxes I suppose!  He he.  I have a hat box from Korea, but no Korean hat to put in it.
