Is stamp collecting a Winter hobby?

I was looking at the Users on-line in the last 24hours box at the bottom of the screen and I noticed I have not seen a few of our members in a long time.

 So that got me thinking is the stamp collecting hobby just a bad weather or Winter hobby for some of our members?  Do you put your collection away for the Summer?

Yes in the summer months there is just too much going on to sit down and get stampy.. typically the fall and winter months are a bit easier in the Bear Cave.

I work on my stamps year round.

We have mild winters here in the deep south, so the weather really doesnt affect us from going outside.

Stamp collecting is a year round activity for me. I suffered from heat exhaustion about a dozen years ago and since then I can't take the heat. When it is hot and sunny, stay inside where it is air conditioned.

Stamp Collecting is NOT a winter hobby.
Stamp Collecting is a summer hobby.
It is a winter OBSESSION!

Gardening takes up a lot of the time and resources that would otherwise go into stamp collecting. Collecting and arranging plants uses the same braincells.

I do spend more time outdoors during the summer, but "stamp time" tends to be governed by when the little one is asleep rather than by the weather. So for me, it's a year-round hobby (daughter permitting).

Stamps and stamp collecting are all year round for me. My day starts on my PC to see what is in my email and searches, a look at my website, then sorting soaking mounting scaning and listing untill 10am after a cup of coffee its in the garden with my wife or my workshop to repair some furniture.

PS. I do sneak back when there is some spare time!!

I am stampy all year round, but more licky stampy than organisie stampy in the summer

I see a few of our regular members ( frog, jonesy, @michaelcayley, ) have been away from the forum for over a month. Let's have a update on this thread. Plus its nice to know our members are just busy with other things and are not sick or getting surgeries.

Perish the thought. Stamp collectors never sleep. We may take a pause now and then to mow the lawn or shovel snow or go out for groceries but stamps are always in the background. I have always said that stamps are a hobby when I have nothing else to do. Now it's the other way around, I have less and less to do so I have more time for stamps. (being retired) So no my collections are not put away for the summer. Just slightly less time being spent on them. After all one does have to get outside when we have nice sunny days. Happy year round collecting.

With the virus and all, no one goes out.  Personally I have the stamps and some programming I am doing.  My cousin says she has nothing to do and is going "bonkers".

However, in general I think collecting is a winter hobby.

I think that it depends on each individual’s situation. Due to being disabled, which prevents me from enjoying most of my other hobbies (backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing), stamp collecting has become a year around pursuit for me and I spend as much time working on my collection during the summer as in the winter. Ten years ago, though, I would have said that it was definitely a winter time hobby.

I think it depends a lot on location, too.

Where I live, the winters are long and, at times, severe. Conversely, the summers are a lot more temperate (it can occasionally be very hot, but not usually for long) and since they tend to be short, one has to compress one's principal outdoor activity into a relatively short period.

If I lived in Florida or north Africa or southern Japan, I might prefer to do my philately in the summer, when it's more oppressive to be outside and the winters tend to be very pleasant.

Summers can be hot and humid around here. I avoid a lot of sun since fair skinned.

There's too much happening at the Embassy to even try to curb it. Priorities may shift a bit due to the weather, but the Embassy never closes.
