Curse of the Overprinted Fraktur

I'm stumped again (a very common occurrence).

An attractive stamp that I can not identify the country of origin.  Obviously the overprint is German.  The heavy "Deutsches Reich" overprint obliterates the original Fraktur script (which I have a hard time deciphering regardless).

I have recognized the "2 Gulden" underneath the "2 Reichsmark" overprint.  Also, the stamp itself is watermarked with very clear Lozenges (I call them rows of Diamonds) of which Scott numbers watermark 125.  It is perforated 14.  It feels engraved.  It has no gum.

Again, I would appreciate any help identifying this stamp.

I will take a wild guess here and guess Austria, Scott# AD254, issued 1939.

Edit -  I read Danzig as the third word under the overprint.  I looked up Danzig in my Scott catalog index and it had a page number for "Danzig stamps surcharged".  It brought me to the country of Austria.

It is Danzig, Scott 254. Unused, its book value is $20. In 1939, when Danzig was returned to Germany, remaining stocks of Danzig stamps were overprinted and were valid for use throughout Germany.

The medieval crane is one of the main landmarks of Danzig, now the Polish city of Gdansk. It was destroyed in the war along with the entire city, but has been reconstructed. I visited it a few years ago:

Indeed, I am pretty darn confident that it is Danzig 254. I take it that the Mottlau River no longer flows beneath the medieval crane as shown on the stamp, unless the bottom of the photograph is cropped? (Great picture, by the way, Mr. greaden.) One last question: what year of Scott Catalogue did you use, Mr. greaden?

For the life of me, I can not recognize the word "Danzig" on that stamp.

Danzig is underneath 'Reich'. I used the 2012 Scott classical (1840-1940) catalog.
As for the river, it is still there but the boats are more modern.
