French Stamps With Numeral Postmark

I was going through my early stamps from France and discovered several Ceres stamps with clear numeral postmarks. I searched the internet and eventually found a website where you can query the number to determine the town/city where the letter was postmarked.

For some reason I can't get the link which I had earlier posted for the specific page containing small or large numeral postmarks so  click on the following:  marcophilie.org/ The home page is in French so from the list click on "Aide a l"identification par la forme". From the Introduction page look in the pane on the left and scroll down the different cancellation types and click on "Losange" beneath the diamond shaped dotted postmark. On the next page, scroll down the left window pane to "1852 - Liste des bureaux (losange petits chiffres)" which translates as List of offices (diamond small numbers) or "1862 - Liste des Bureaux (losange gros Chiffres)" which translates as offices (big diamond figures).






This stamp is Scott #62 with numeral cancel 2795.  A  query of the above site reveals that 2795 = Pau.

MikeC99 - Nice postmark! And the Marcophilie website is simply awesome, except for the linguistic challenge.. Glad to see others taking interest in the PC and GC lozenges.
A few weeks ago I pulled some 300+ Ceres and Napoleons with different numbers, and established a side-collection for these on Vario pages. Almost more interesting than working on my main France collection! Does anyone else collect the different postmark numbers?

blaamand, I'm amazed that you have been able to collect so many Ceres and Napoleons with numeral postmarks. I think I only have a little more than a dozen good postmarks on mine. I hope someone with a good understanding of French can give us a review of the contents of the website.

The high number is mostly from an old dealers stockbook I purchased from US this summer, with literally thousands Ceres and napoleons. I actually purchased it in the hope for varieties, Maritime postmarks (Ligne# or anchors) or for used abroad postmarks. I was disappointed to find almost nothing of that but well compensated by the number of lozenges.

It just happened that I found this page while looking for an english translation of "losange petits chiffres"...
Quite funny though as I'm a french looking for english translations and you are looking for the opposite (The reason why I look for english translation is because I'm now living in Singapore so I want to make my collection accessible to locals by translating its related information in english).

Anyway, I just thought that if I could be helpful translating something for you (or explaining stuff link to french postal history) please feel free to ask.
Will do my best to help when I have a bit of time.

Regarding the different obliterations for Napoleon and Ceres (diamond, small points, big points, small numbers, big numbers etc), the Yvert & Tellier french catalogue is valuing stamps on letters at a different price depending of these criteria.
