What is the value of Classic Mint No Gum Stamps?

I have a Canadian stamp that was issued on July 16, 1908. It is Scott # 103 and is mint no gum.  My question is what value would be assigned to a classic stamp that is mint no gum. I have some classic mint no gum stamps from other jurisdictions so I am interested whether there is a rule that can be used to assign a value to such stamps.  Somewhere I read that mint no gum stamps should be treated as used for determining its value but I am not sure whether this is for modern or classic stamps or both.

i have heard that they are all treated as used unless you can verify in some way that they were not used.

You have brought up an interesting problem.
.
Of course, there is variations of "mint" in terms for a stamp: Mint Never Hinged, Mint Never Mounted, Mint Hinged, and Mint No Gum. If the stamp came from the "factory" without gum, there's no problem. However, if the stamp was used but missed by a cancel, it is still a used stamp and can no longer be called mint. The reason for the missing glue is not important. It automatically becomes classified as a used stamp. That's a noticeable decrease for a #103.

Now, I am not a dealer. I do not sell stamps. Heck, I rarely buy stamps. We all know most catalogue values are inflated and seller orientated. If you are planning to sell it I would think somewhere between fifty to one hundred percent of used cv would be fair. If you are thinking insurance purposes, I'd get it appraised by an authorized dealer.

Mr. Lee, I have no interest in selling the stamp nor having it insured. It just brought to my attention that I wasn't sure how old classic MNG stamps would be valued. In the case of my Canadian Scott #103 stamp, my 2010 Unitrade catalogue shows the value of a VF mint stamp as $400 and a VF used stamp as $250. I'm happy knowing the answer to my question and pleased that the stamp has pretty good value.

My 2011 Harris Catalog only lists used Fine. It is $160 (USD). But the Average mint is $400 and the Fine is $650. The current StampWorld has a used at 125 Euro (about $175 CAD) and the unused at 150 Euro ($209 CAD). I like your numbers.

I have a dream that one day the stamp world will return to sanity, and once again become interested in the quality and visibility of what is on the front of a mint stamp and not the integrity of the claggy cr*p on the reverse. On that day (which, being in my 60s I might not live to see) Mint No Gum will be catalogued at about 75% of Mint Full Gum (And Mint Disturbed Gum will be about 90%).

Until the revolution comes, buy any nice No Gums that come up at the pittance being asked, and use them to do beautiful displays for real, non-investment collectors who don't give a tinker's curse for what they can't see on the back.
