Some people do not understand stampers.

I enjoy taking stamps to be sorted at my lunch break at work.Now I work with alot of young kids who have never heard about stamp collecting.
Just the other day a young girl asked me what I was doing with that junk. I told her about my Grandpa and how I got started into stamps.
The young girl told me she would like to collect stamps and could I help her. I told her I would be happy to,so I gave her some of my stamps.
That was the 3rd person who I talked to about stamps at my work.

I had a friend once, who when she saw me sorting stamps into little piles, said she just wanted
to blow them all away! I`m guessing that`s a frequent temptation for other non-stampers!

I've collected all my life-- no "stopping when I reached my teens and resuming in my 50's." 

What I USED to run into quite a bit was the "Oh, I thought only OLD people collected stamps!" attitude.

Interestingly enough, most of the "new collectors" I have referred to the hobby have been 30's and younger.

Well, I started three times, once when I was 12, once in my 30s and once in my late 50s.

I started dating my wife in high school, back in the 80s.
When she found out I had a stamp collection she honestly wanted to take all my mint stamps and mail letters to her friends.

I overheard someone ask/comment, "Why would anyone want to collect mint stamps? They are just glorified stickers.... "

My wife and kids enjoy the history behind the stamps, when I discuss it with them. Other than that, they think I am crazy for wasting so much time with them.

For me it is strange that they can not understand the pleasure, feeling a philatelist when studying carefIully tucked a tiny little piece of paper. When spending time searching information and finally the joy we feel when we found a stamp was lacking. It is absolutely justified query them, what pleasure we feel when dealing with philately. For me it is incomprehensible logic of philatelists participating in a forum, where exchanged, information philatelic material, views and do not respond to Personal Messges they send other members of the forum and ask directions, exchange or their opinion on any theme. I think good manners, the culture, the common coexistence in a forum require you to answer even our answer is negative

Well, ten1951, I know we all do our best to answer any comments, questions, etc. that come to us,
but sometimes there are an awful lot, and sometimes we are not exactly sure what someone means or
wants.

We have to remember that our administrators are often juggling outside job requirements, family
needs, their own stamp collections and other things we don`t know about.

So if you don`t get an answer to a question, try again. By the way, you have covered quite a lot
of subjects in your posting above. If you try only covering one thing in a question or comment,
sometimes it is easier for others to reply to it.

Well, kannik I was not referring to administrators of whom I had and have every possible help in the old as well as in the new forum. They help me and guide me in the best way, even when I make mistakes. Indeed, many times I do not understand and what I have to answer, more so my English is very poor, but I'm asking for explanations and answering. For me this is the essence. Answering. Even when you're not sure, or do not agree with what you propose should answer and explain your position.

ten1951 - i thin you make a good point, many people can (and do) express their views in response to a question or a topic and this brings up great conversation with both sides represented. and i also agree with you that this is one of the beauties of our hobby.

oh and by the way - thank you. i know at one time we were not the most supportive team but we have learned a lot with your help also.

The essence of the dialogue is to exchange views. Sometimes we can to agree and sometimes we can to disagree.I think this is health in a community. What I wrote for administrators is not false flattery. It's what I found almost a year now. As I said from the first moment, I'm quite old in age, with little knowledge in computer and knowledge of the English language not anymore as good as before. This created and still creates some problems in communication but also in my participation in the forum. These problems were overcome by the help of the administrations and some other member in the forum. That's why I'm happy for my participation in this forum. Thank you very much all of you.
