Terms for Collecting Blocks with Centerlines

Earlier flat plate stamps were printed in sheets of 400 stamps.  The printed sheets were divided into 4 - 100 stamp sections, cut and was shipped to post office as 100 stamps per pane.

Some sheets  were cut up to make blocks with centerlines in each block. I will show the 3 varieties....




Centerline block of 4 with both a vertical and horizontal line.

Vertical line block with just one line going up and down the block.

Horizontal line block with just one line going side to side.

So, on one sheet of 400 stamps, you can only have one centerline block, 8 horizontal line blocks and 8 vertical line blocks.

Hope this clears up some confusion of the term centerline block.
