Stamps with control numbers

I am working on a sweet collection of Spain used stamps. As I started to id the 1909-22 King Alfonso stamps I discovered the control numbers (CN) on the back of the stamps. I knew about the control numbers on sheets of mint stamps but I did not know about putting a number on each stamp. So I was curious what info the Scott Catalog had on this subject. The catalog had listing for each colour but I wanted to know more so I started to look on=line, then I thought of Stamp Bears. Here is a few thoughts about collecting Spain stamps with CN

1, Let us share our thoughts and any info on Spain control numbers.

2. If you do collect stamps with CN do you prefer low or high numbers?

3. Is there any other countries that put the CN on the back of each stamp?

I dont collect stamps for the CN, but interested who does and what they have to say about them.

The control numbers are also found in most of the former Spanish colonies that have issued stamps. Alternative solutions to prevent postal fraud are for example the regional control numbers as overprints that were used in Mexico. I have no doubt that this is a specialized collecting area.
