HELP! This is starting to sound really fishy!

Ok, I'm on another Stamp Board that does some trades.
Recently a collector from South Africa contacted me about "evaluating" some stamps. They were pretty common and I told him so.
We then decided to trade some stamps or so I thought. Now he wants to just gift me with some stamps. He said his intentions is so he can have a contact in the US to get P.S.E Certificates. The red flag was when he said it could make us both rich.
I did send him my address but now he wants phone number and email to complete the delivery.


This just doesn't sound right? Am I being paranoid?

You are right to back off. I don't know what PSE certificates are but anyone who asks for phone number and email address in these circumstances must be suspicious - and anyone offering a quick way to riches is almost certainly a scammer. Steer clear.

There is no reason to have a "US" contact to get PSE certificates. I can only imagine the next step is to ask for your bank account number.

I would suggest that you contact the administrators of that board. They should be aware that a member is making "get rich" offers.

I agree with all here who advise caution and immediate ceasing of any and all contact. I've experienced different versions of this scam.

Not even a courteous reply is indicated here. Just stop.

As a matter of fact it is!

Anyway I told him to keep the "gift".
He was pretty persistent.... even sent me his Cell number so I could text him. I didn't.
Anyway I did make a post in the "Warnings" thread at that forum about it. Seems I'm not the only one he contacted.

There's a reason why I don't reply to certain stamp questions at other forums. The content of certain posts and the way they are worded can sometimes hint that the poster is "fishing".

Here, they are a lot more blatantly obvious, peddling shoes and handbags and what-not -- and the posts usually get blocked and offender banned before members ever see the posts.

Although sometimes we do it a little too quickly. I think Kris is still looking for new shoes.
