ImageSleuth - another retroReveal replacement

As an occasional retroReveal user I was disappointed to find that it had once again gone offline in May 2022. Just when I needed it most.

Determined to do something about it I dusted off my trusty laptop and after a week or two of furious coding had come up with a replacement sufficient for my needs.

My plan was always to release it publicly. However, before I could do so though, it would first need to be tidied up. Help text added, installation scripts created, and off course a web page for distribution.

However, as we all know life happens. Other priorities come up, and with the attention span of a goldfish I had soon moved on to other things. And, in the interim, PostmasterGS had created his excellent Postmark Reveal site so there was no longer a pressing need.

Recently, with some time on my hands I decided to make "ImageSleuth" ready for distribution.

ImageSleuth runs on Windows, Mac or Linux and does not require an internet connection in order to function.

Once it has been downloaded and installed, ImageSleuth can remain on one's computer indefinitely, and is of course completely free of charge.

It can be downloaded directly from the ImageSleuth website.

I have just released an update to ImageSleuth.
The latest version, V1.1.0, may be downloaded from the link in my signature

New features are brightness and contrast controls which I find can be useful for some images.
I have also added drag and drop so that images can be dragged directly onto the main window, and it also now accepts files with a .tif extension in addition to .tiff

Congrats, clivel, very nicely done. Is there one of these for watermarks, or could there be? I find certain coated papers like later QE Hong Kong definitives nearly impossible to ID properly.

Unfortunately, watermarks will need to wait for an improvement in scanner technology - besides which, what would we do without the cheap lighter fluid high, is no substitute

ImageSleuth - just released V1.2.0

I am pleased to announce the release of ImageSleuth V1.2.0
As always this is completely free and may be downloaded from the link in my signature.

New features are:

• A progress bar along with a cancel button is displayed while images are being processed.
• User configurable maximum allowable image size.
• Option to automatically scale images down that would otherwise exceed the maximum specified image size.
• Brightness and contrast settings no longer persist when images are changed, but instead, now revert to the normal setting as new images are displayed.
• A new "Hold" control to optionally keep the brightness and contrast settings when images are changed.
