Cetinje Monastery of Montenegro

The Cetinje Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery in Montenegro. It is located in Cetinje and is the seat of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and its name derives from Saint Peter of Cetinje. A center of historical and cultural importance, it was founded between 1701 and 1704 by Prince-Bishop Danilo I on the site of the former court of Ivan Crnojević.

There are several relics in the monastery: Remains of Saint Peter of Cetinje, the Right hand of Saint John the Baptist, Particles of the Life-Giving Cross, the Icon of the Philermos Mother of God, the Remains of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš (relocated), Royal Regalia of Serbian Emperor Stephen Uroš IV Dušan, among others

On September 1, 1896, Montenegro issued a set of 12 stamps depicting the Monastery at Cetinje (or Royal Mausoleum). This date was in celebration of the bicentenary of the ruling dynasty, founded by the Bladika, Danilo Petrovich of Nyegosh.

Because it was the residence of the royal family, Cetinje, rather than Podgorica, was regarded as the capital before WW1. Much of the 'used' postal stationery of Montenegro was actually cancelled to order at the Head Office at Cetinje with a large or small thimble handstamp:

...and (probably) You have lot of fake stamp of this issue in collection. As You see on Michel catalog, there was two values printed by one guy (F. Fournier), made tons of fake stamps! Some of very nice article are on blog page:

To mention, that "Templars" have great role in this whole story around Monastery and relics inside...
