What Branch Did You Serve In?

Calling all veterans... In what armed forces services branch did you serve?

Me... I was a Sailor in the United States Navy where I served as a Photographer's Mate with the Atlantic Fleet Audiovisual Command(FLTAVCOMLANT) and Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 14 (HM-14) as part of Tactical Air Wing Six attached to the USS Eisenhower CVN-69.

I spent 5 years in the US Army.

U.S.M.C. Spent 22years in the Marines!!! Now working for Government on same Aircraft AV8B Harriers I worked on doing overhaul work. Different varients but same airframes. Keep them flying trying to save money!!!

My Dad was a career Corpsman and received his Purple Heart with the 1st Marines in Korea - that has always gotten me in good with the Jar Heads...

I served U.S.A.F. I served in the 824th Combat Support Group. Kadena Air Base, Okinawa. Also Fifth TAC Fighter Squadron. Osan, Korea. I was a Twin Engine Jet Fighter Mechanic. I worked on F-4's F-105's also The "Black Bird"  SR71. I also was stationed at Andrews AFB, Washington DC and worked on T-39's as a Crew Member,  then went on as a Flight Engineer briefly then became the Night Shift NCOIC .

Wow...didn't realize I was in the company of such a distinguished group of veterans! I'm impressed!!

I've never served in the military. (I think I'm a bit younger than some of you?!) Briefly entertained the idea to apply to West Point, but my congressman (abscam!) was in jail at the time & quickly gave up on the idea...

My one interesting military story, which I've only recently learned: my Dad was in the Air Force & served in Korea. But I also just discovered that he apparently, at the age of 14/15 (?) enlisted at the very tail end of WWII. He never served - (the war must've ended the next day?!) but he is listed as a veteran of both WWII & Korea...

For all of you, I certainly appreciate your service to your country & thank you for it!!

Spent a few deployments to Kadena on the Navy Side next to the P-3 Squadrons Hanger. Seen the SR71's taxi past a few times!!!

Yea the SR71''s were Top Secret when I was there. Four hours to fly 16,000 miles.

The closest I came to actual service was getting approved after going through a couple days of testing. The recruiting sergeant told me I could take up any field in the forces except I wasn't allowed to fix anything. Apparently I failed my mechanics testing miserably I ended up turning them down after I came to a realization that, as much as I wanted to serve, I couldn't and still be true to myself.

I did serve in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets for a number of years, and as such got to go to the parking pad for the aircraft for the Toronto Air Show each year. Remember my C.O. chewing out a US Air Force Lieutenant when he landed. The guy decided to do a flyby of the parking area and break the sound barrier over our heads in an F-15. Startled a few people That was an interesting day. Got to get up close to the SR-71 (it was at the show) and found out about the disdain some, (only some), US officers have with foreign ranks. Mind you the Major that was there gave the Lieutenant a crash course on Canadian ranks and how my Captain outranked him and that he better apologize... fast.
