Creating Fantastic Images with your "camera"

Many years ago before decent scanners were available, I developed a method to take consistent high def images with my SLR (anyone know that word ?)
Anyway it might still have an application - a pro photographer of jewelry gave me tips

Start with a opaque (not transparent) milk jug and cut off the top & bottom


Cut off the top & bottom


If possible place 2 lamps with 100 or more watt bulbs on the sides


Place the stamp under the jug, the camera on top, focus, use the flash and the result can be amazing
I used it especially for embossed stamps
Simple to repeat with consistent results

A sample from the 80's - you can feel the embossing & depth

You created a light box!

I had a light box but the jug allowed for precise distance every time and having a stable camera platform.
The light box was not great for an overhead shot. OK for shooting standing or large objects. The round sides of the jug were also  able to diffuse the light better. The flash was directed from outside the jug.
I did photography for others and 2 jobs were phographing teas and jewelry- it worked great - they still use the images on their websites

I take camera images using a copy stand and assume one could turn the light box so the open side is up. Another budget way is to use a cardboard box and cut openings in the sides.  I use the stand mainly for capturing images of tagging.
